About Us

As a young child, Marianne Sikes Grush would make clothes for her dolls using her grandmother’s sewing machine.  In the 4th grade, she took a “real” sewing class and made her fist pair of shorts.  Fast forward to high school and she was making prom dresses and theater costumes for herself and her friends.  As a senior, she took a Fashion Design class and was awarded the Fashion Design Student of the Year award for 1987.  Her sewing machine frequently visited her in her dorm room in college as she continued to refine her hobby.

In the real world, Marianne held a number of positions working in local churches and corporate environments.  Her creative time was spent on paper crafts – mainly scrapbooking and rubber stamping.  After the premature birth of her first child, Marianne decided to become a stay-at-home mom, and found a new reason to dust off the sewing machine.  Finding it difficult to find “just the right bows” for her little one’s very fine hair, she began making hairbows.  As her daughter grew, so did the size of her bows – and her collection of ribbons!  Add to that an embroidery machine, and a little encouragement from her friend, Frances… and One of a Kind is born!

Marianne currently lives in Holly Springs, NC with her husband, Eric, and two precious children, Katie and Will.
